Club/ Intramural Sports Beat
For the past three weeks the women’s club volleyball team has been vying to host a weekend tournament in Boone that would consist mainly of teams from North Carolina. The team was not able to get a commitment from many schools, so they went out and beat everyone at Wake Forest University instead.
One week after the tournament at Appalachian State University fell through, the women went to Wake Forest to compete March 30.

The Mountaineers traveled to Paul Derr Stadium at North Carolina State University last weekend to compete in the Adidas Raleigh Relays. Appalachian track and field competed amongst some of the best teams in the country. The athletes responded to the heightened level of competition by earning several NCAA Regional Qualifying performances.
Suzanne Makinson vaulted a season’s best 3.66 meters, which is approximately 12 feet. The effort earned her a trip to George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., for the regional meet. Ronda White continued her successful track season, earning a qualifier in the triple jump. Her 12.33 meter effort was well above the 12.19 standard. White was also only 6 inches shy of a qualifier in the long jump.
