The Appalachian Student Ambassadors invite students to join
in their efforts to promote the highlights of Appalachian
State University.
The Ambassadors kicked off the semester last week with their
spring membership drive. The drive will run through Friday.
“[The Ambassadors] are a special group and we value
their role as representatives to the student body, to prospective
students and families, and to the friends of the University,”
Patrick K. Setzer, advisor to the Ambassadors said.
Appalachian Ambassadors is a group funded by Appalachian
State University through the Club Council. The members work
directly with the Alumni Association, University Admissions
and the Office of the Chancellor year round coordinating
and hosting various events and activities.
“As Ambassadors we show how much we love our university
and are committed to making this place better,” Ambassador
Priscilla C. Meek said.
Ambassadors represent and promote Appalachian State by guiding
tours for prospective students, hosting Fall and Spring Open
House events, assisting in Scholars Weekend and organizing
service projects such as “Chancellor for a Day,”
a canned food drive held every fall to raise food and money
for the Watauga Hunger Coalition. Christian Guest, membership
publicity for Ambassadors, said this past “Chancellor
for a Day” the group collected 4,723 cans and raised
$412 dollars.
“Being an Ambassador has changed my life, and I would
recommend it to anyone who has a genuine love for ASU,”
first year member J. Ethan Dodson said.
Applications for membership are available in Plemmons Student
Union at the Ambassadors’ contact table Jan. 20 through
30. A mandatory attendance information session will be held
tomorrow in Plemmons Student Union at 6:30 p.m. in Roan Mt.
Room.
