Our Perspective
... One more chance to rid
'student apathy'
|
Here
we go again.
It’s another ‘student apathy’ rant.
There is another chance for students to protest tuition increases.
Appalachian State University’s Student Government Association
is currently rallying for anyone affected by tuition increases
to attend Students’ Day at the Board of Governors meeting
Friday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. in Chapel Hill.
The Board of Governors will discuss the possibility of raising
tuition statewide by 2 percent.
Care about tuition increases?
With the current campus-based tuition and fee increases ($300
per year for the next two years), and this possibility of
an additional 2 percent statewide ($78 for ASU), many Appalachian
students will be paying an extra month’s rent

Call me crazy but…
This past weekend I was on the phone with a guy that I semi-dated
for a minute last year, but who has now become one of my
good friends, when he said something that struck me. Now
I can’t get it out of my head, and I am thinking: am
I commitment-phobic?
Leading up to this realization went something like this.

| Use resources to make Appalachian cleaner |
In one of the most wasteful countries on the planet, it’s
comforting to know that Appalachian State University is trying
to make a difference.
As you walk into almost any building on campus, you will
notice recycling bins that have been strategically placed
throughout the halls.
When most people would normally drop their aluminum cans
in the nearest garbage receptacle, the marked bins make it
more likely for the soda-guzzling students, faculty and staff
of Appalachian to recycle their used cans.

| Mountaineer Maniacs should support women |
The hardest thing about writing sports is that whole “being
objective” thing.
I pull for Appalachian to win as much as anybody on campus,
I just cannot outwardly show my support.
What makes being objective even harder is the fact that I
sit about two feet away from the Mountaineer Maniacs during
all basketball games.
If Appalachian had a “Man of the Year” award,
it should go to Mark Dreibelbis for bringing back the Mountaineer
Maniacs.
