Starting tomorrow, Appalachian State University’s basketball teams will experience their slice of March Madness when the first-round games of the Southern Conference tournament commence in Charleston, S.C.

Should same-sex marriages be prohibited?
If George W. Bush says something, and there is no one around to hear him, is what he said still controversial?

Such was not the case last week, when millions of people heard what Bush had to say, and many of them were angered as a result.

“If we’re to prevent the meaning of marriage from being changed forever, our nation must enact a constitutional amendment to protect marriage in America,” Bush said Feb. 24.

President Bush’s recent remarks on the Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriages have sparked social, political and moral controversy among voters, government officials and religious figures.

Various implications exist within Bush’s decision to oppose gay marriages. Constitutional prohibition of same-sex marriages must address issues such as social discrimination, whether the matter is one of state or federal jurisdiction and separation of church and state.
