The Appalachian State University Art Expo will highlight student
accomplishments March 18 through April 7 in Catherine J. Smith Gallery.
“The Art Expo is our annual open house and showcase of student
art work,” professor of art Dr. Marianne S. Suggs said
The exposition will display a variety of student paintings, sculptures,
graphic design, prints, jewelry, fibers, ceramic works, drawings
and more.
Assistant professor of art Christopher M. Curtin said professional
artists working with the department of art judged the artwork at
an open house in Wey Hall Tuesday. The selected works will be on
display in the upcoming exposition.
Students and faculty were invited to experience the artwork.
“It was a great way to see all the different visions of Appalachian
students,” junior criminal justice major Adam C. Wiley said.
“It is a great break from my long day of exams and classes.”
“The work that is selected by the juror is, in many cases,
a student’s first juried exhibit opportunity and truly an
honor,” Suggs said.
A reception will be held March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. During the reception,
students will receive prizes such as art supplies and free food
donated by local businesses.
“Students get dressed up and usually someone has a large party
afterwards; it is a lot of fun,” Curtin said.
Students and faculty are encouraged to come to the expo to see the
artwork of Appalachian students.
“Art Expo is the best time to see the best work our students
are producing,” Suggs said.
