first round in Charleston

A poor second-half performance let down the Appalachian State University
men’s basketball team again March 3 in the Southern Conference
tournament.
College of Charleston ran away with the game, winning 71-61 at North
Charleston Coliseum.
Appalachian (9-21) came out firing in the first half, shooting 45
percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range.
D.J. Thompson and Noah Brown were both first-half stars, putting
in nine points apiece to lead the way. Chris McFarland chipped in
with seven.
There is just something about Georgia Southern University that gives
Appalachian State University fits.
For the second straight year, Appalachian women’s basketball
lost to Georgia Southern in the Southern Conference basketball tournament,
falling by a score 65-58.
Last year, ASU lost an overtime thriller.
This year, however, the Mountaineers went away quietly down the
stretch.
