Our Perspective ... Time to put an end to sexual assault at ASU

Today is March 25, 2004. It is the 21st Century. As a nation, we claim to be forward thinking.

Why then do the women of America—our mothers, sisters, lovers, friends and selves—live in fear of being attacked when they walk home at night, go to a bar or even go to work?

Appalachian State University is a relatively safe campus.

Superficial obsessions lead to unrealistic views
As I look around at the people in this world, I have to admit that I am a little bit concerned.

Everyone knows those kinds of people, where you look at him or her and just ask yourself, what are they thinking? What motivates them to say or do the things they do?

What kinds of priorities do they have?

I was watching a news coverage on the horrible train explosion that occurred in Spain. Everyone feels the pain when a great tragedy occurs.

Concerts, politics: no good without fairness
Last week, I was among the lucky handful of people who were privy to the one-time reunion show of North Carolina metal legends Prayer for Cleansing. In the hardcore circuit, this was a huge deal, as was proven by the crowd who traveled from as far as Canada and Texas for this event.

While the music was intense, the dancing was brutal and the crowd (not to mention the bands) was giving 100 percent, the coolest thing about this particular show was its approach to life outside music.

Alongside the merchandise booths were informational booths set up by such organizations as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Southeast Anarchist Network.
