'Secret Window': shallow plot a Depp disappointment

There are two things that would make my job better.

One of those comes with the help of you, dear reader.

You see, I think it would really spice up the job if I randomly had people stop into the office screaming that I stole their stories, beat me into submission, burned down my house and started to systematically threaten and kill off anyone remotely close to me.

The Rachel Nevadas pop into Black Cat Burrito

The Rachel Nevadas will make its second trip to Boone at Black Cat Burrito Saturday night. However, the band has put on a new face this time around.

The pop group has been through several different line-ups, and has finally arrived at the three-piece ensemble of drummer/vocalist Dan Baber, bassist/vocalist Chris Freeman and lead vocalist/guitarist Prabir Mehta.

“We’re rocking out better than ever,” Mehta said. “This is the best incarnation of the band.”

The School of Music presents Cornocopia, a Horn Studio recital at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center. Admission is free. Faculty Follies follows at 8 p.m., and admission will be charged. For more information, contact 262-2030.

An Evening of One Act Plays, directed by students from the department of theatre and dance, will begin at 8 p.m. in I.G. Greer Arena Theatre. Admission is $4.

Heavy Bread will perform at Café Portofino at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $4.

Carbon Leaf will perform with the former members of Bluestring at Legends at 10 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for the public.

Chef Dave plays at Murphy’s Restaurant and Pub at 10 p.m.

Alli with an I plays Whitewater at 9 p.m. Also appearing are Self Portrait, The Necessary and Just for Tonight. The event is $3 for students and $5 for the public. Advance ticket sales begin March 29 at the information desk in Plemmons Student Union. The event is BYOB, six-pack limit with proper ID.

Matone will perform its first show in Boone at Café Portofino at 9:30 p.m.

Satellite Union performs at Canyons Restaurant at 10 p.m. Admission is free. The show is 21+.
