Track shines at Raleigh Relays:

At the rate the Appalachian State University track & field programs are going, they will be storming to the regionals like their name is El Nino.

A week after Ernest Wiggins, Bob Smith and Anthony Greer all posted qualifying times for the NCAA East Regional, Ronda and Tondra White qualified at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.

Ronda jumped 42-4.75 feet in the triple jump and finished second in the competition. Tondra reached 40-4.25 feet to place sixth.

Marivi Mercado established a new school record in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:39.94. She finished eighth in the event, held last weekend.

The Mountaineers will run again this Saturday at Clemson University.
