Our Perspective ... University should plan for growth

Change is nothing new for Appalachian State University.

The past few years, the university has undergone continuous construction facelifts, both internal and external. Appalachian has increased its campus size by adding new buildings such as the Library & Information Commons, residence halls, the New Rankin Science Building, additional parking and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts to name a few.

The university has also expanded its educational opportunities with new technology available to students and faculty.

These additions are necessary to keep Appalachian competitive in the new century.

Thank you, but most importantly thank me
So everyone else has been doing a farewell-pat-on-the-back-reflecting-on-the-year-self-congratulatory opinion piece.

Being ever the follower, I’ve decided to do the same.

Sadly, this is the last opinion column I ever write for The Appalachian.

Please, hold your applause.

I’m going to take this time to thank some of the people I’ve come to know over the years.

Barry Bonds: most hated, most complete player
Quick, name the most complete baseball player of all time.

I’ll give you a hint as to who it is: he’s a current player, he’s egotistical and self-serving and his head has physically doubled in size since he started smashing homeruns.

Barry Bonds is certainly not the most loved player in the game (in fact, he’s probably the most hated), but he has proved himself to be one of the most talented and the most complete players ever in baseball.

Bonds, like a fine wine, has only gotten better with age.

And in the first 14 games of his 19th season, Bonds is already threatening to have his best season yet.
