Our Perspective ... A university reportcard

To the students of Appalachian State University, this next week is their last chance to make or break their grades for the spring 2004 semester.

In honor of exam week, The Appalachian has put together our own finale grades for the university. We hope our critique will help improve the university in the years to come.

The re-resurrected (renamed) Nix Awards
This is it.

As this edition of The Appalachian hits the newsstands, my time with the publication comes to an end.

Don’t fret dear reader; I don’t plan to reminisce the past four years of my life with my last column. Nostalgia’s already crept up on me after the reality of graduation set in several weeks ago.

Instead, I intend to carry on a tradition started by former Editor-in-Chief John T. Bennett.

John had this crazy idea that he, as a well-versed senior member of The Appalachian, could pinpoint a list of prominent issues. He dubbed his list the “First—and last—annual JB awards.”

A year later, John’s successor J. Adam Bennett (no relation) again had that same crazy idea and resurrected the JB awards.

So now as I prepare to pass the torch along to the 70th Editor-in-Chief, I too am a well-versed senior member of The Appalachian. So without further ado, here are the re-resurrected—renamed—and last—Nix awards.
