Our Perspective ... Change can be good, bring challenges

At Friday's Board of Trustee meeting, Trustee John A. Allison said that "even positive change can lead to apprehension."

As Appalachian State University moves forth in a new era, the administration, students, faculty and staff of this fine university knows what Allison is talking about.

After 39 years of dedicated service, Interim Chancellor Harvey R. Durham and his wife, Susan, will leave Appalachian State. They will not be truly leaving us, for Durham said Friday, "Susan and I will be watching what you are doing from across the street."

Durham has been a dedicated servant to this university. Everytime we have called on him, he has answered that call.

After the sudden resignation of Chancellor Francis T. Borkowski last June, Durham postponed his own retirement to lend a hand.

Scrubs, The O.C. oh so deserving
I’ll admit it; I watch a lot of TV. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I am glued to the boob tube from 8-11 p.m., seven days a week. But I have at least one show that I enjoy on just about every night.

Emmy nomination forms went out this week to the voters for The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In hopes that maybe one voter resides in our tiny area of the mountain and happened to pick up this copy of The Appalachian, please allow me to clue you in on who deserves to get nominated. For those of you without a vote, maybe click over to one of these shows next season.

There will surely be a God if Scrubs can get a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. Scrubs, in its third year on NBC, is by far the most irreverent, sarcastic sitcom on television today.
