Pollard named head baseball coach

Chris Pollard has been named the head baseball coach at Appalachian State University, Director of Athletics Roachel M. Laney announced last Tuesday.

Pollard was previously the head baseball coach and athletics director at Pfeiffer University.

He comes to ASU after leading Pfeiffer to back-to-back Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference championships and a 2004 NCAA Division II Regional bid.

“It is great for Appalachian State University that Chris Pollard is on board as our new baseball coach,” Laney said in a statement.

Williams takes second position

Dr. Harry L. Williams has been named acting associate vice chancellor for enrollment services at Appalachian State University.

Williams, who will serve for a year at this role, will also stay at his post as associate vice chancellor for diversity at Appalachian State.

He replaces Cindy A. Wallace, who was named interim vice chancellor of student development earlier this month after the resignation of Dr. Gregory S. Blimling.

SGA seeks to fill openings

One cabinet position and many seats on university committees are available through the Student Government Association (SGA), SGA President Miriam N. Makhyoun announced yesterday.

SGA’s secretary position is open. In May it was announced that Michael E.C. Schroeder would take the position. Makhyoun declined to comment on the situation.

The position is a paid one.

Appalachian Summer Festival closes out twentieth year

On Saturday An Appalachian Summer Festival will cap off its successful season with its annual Outdoor Fireworks Concert in Kidd Brewer Stadium. In addition to the fireworks display, the concert will feature the performances of Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, Beary Hobbs’ Drifters and The Platters.

The stadium gates open at 6:30 p.m., the music starts at 7:30, and the night ends approximately at 10:00, though exact times may vary.
