| Our Perspective ...Thieves affect quality
education on campus |
Earning
an education at this 21st century institution has taken on a new
meaning.
Our classrooms are equipped with increasingly obsolete tools. Professors
present lectures with worn, malfunctioning projectors and boards,
handicapping us in the race to keep up with the latest technologies.
Are budget cuts to blame?
Sadly, no. The blame here falls on thieves.
Beginning this month, a rash of thefts has crept across campus,
including larcenies at Owens Field House, Sanford, Wey and Kerr
Scott halls. There was also an attempted breaking and entering at
Raley Hall.
The Appalachian felt the effects of a thief last week as a piece
of camera equipment was stolen from our office.

| McDonalds millions should go to better
use |
There
are 30,000 McDonalds restaurants in 119 countries serving
47 million people every day.
The first days revenues in 1955 for the first McDonalds
in Des Plaines, Ill. were $366.12. The corporation has come a long
way over the past 48 years.
Ronald McDonald is second only to Santa Claus in terms of
recognition, the McDonalds website boasts.
I think there is something seriously wrong with that statistic,
and not that it is in any way inaccurate.
As you may know by now, McDonalds no longer loves to see their
customers smile, but would rather have them shouting slang and bad
grammar from atop one golden arch. im lovin it
is the new slogan of the 21st century.
If you have never done so before, I strongly suggest you visit the
McDonalds Web site. I find it creepy, brainwashing and atrocious.
The Web site talks about the new campaign to bring im
lovin it to the world.

| Potluck assignments inefficient for freshmen |
Think
back to the spring before you came to Appalachian State University
for your freshman year. Recall that survey you filled out if you
were going potluck for your roommate. Now, fast forward
to the future, to mid-semester freshman year, youve met your
roommate, you have lived together, are you alike or do you contrast
like night and day? If you answered day and night to this question,
then you were in the same shoes as many freshmen were and are around
campus.
One would think that with these survey questions,
freshmen should be roomed with people much like themselves, but
instead most, like I was, were matched up with someone that every
question they answered on that survey felt like it was different.
