Young talent wasted on “Secondhand Lions”
by Kevin DeLury
Senior Staff Writer
Aside from Haley Joel Osment’s voice resembling something akin to nails on a chalkboard, there’s really nothing funny, clever or overall worthwhile to get out of “Secondhand Lions.”
Actually, that all depends on the discriminating tastes of the individual moviegoer.
Consider this: aside from me, the crowd in the theater was old. I’m not talking a naive youngster’s idea of “old.” We’re dealing with an early bird special at Daniel Boone Inn, 7 p.m. movie, down an assortment of medications with a heaping glass of Metamucil and tucked into bed by 9:30 p.m. old.
Alongside that, there’s a slightly younger crowd that, coupled with girls of all ages, makes up the “feel good movie” market. You know, same story, different actors (if you’re lucky), happy ending that’s guaranteed to turn on the waterworks and sometimes, as was the case with “Lions,” generate applause at the end of the film.

ZoSo honors Led Zeppelin tonight by Stephanie Marshall
Staff Writer
ZoSo reproduces the Led Zeppelin experience once again in Legends tonight.
“Young people now will never see the real Led Zeppelin play, but through ZoSo they can picture what it would have been like to be there for the real thing,” Student Programs Program Coordinator Randy Kelly said Monday.
Kelly said ZoSo is a Led Zeppelin tribute act, different from any original cover bands. Instead of replaying the songs, ZoSo reproduce the atmosphere, the clothing and the experience.
“They wear the same outfits, play the same guitars, use a drum kit made by the same manufacturer, of the exact same era, to recreate the sound and the stage presence,” Kelly said.
“They are really into reproducing a Led Zeppelin show, every aspect of it,” Appalachian Popular Programming Society stage shows chairperson Peter D. Van Schoick said Monday.
“Most major acts out there today have been honored by a ‘copy cat’ artist. Bands try to look and sound like a popular band that has stood the test of time and people would love to go back and see, but either can’t because they rarely tour or don’t at all,” Kelly said.
The band members reproducing the Zeppelin experience are Matt Jernigan as lead singer Robert Plant, Greg Thompson as drummer John Bonham, Adam Sandling as bass guitarist John Paul Jones and Jay Bobo as lead guitarist Jimmy Page.
