Appalachian State University sophomore
David A. Parisi mobilized Sept. 29 for deployment to Iraq
after an order by the United States Army to call nearly 3,500
North Carolina National Guard soldiers to federal active
duty. This new mobilization, according
to a press release from Capt. Robert N. Carver of the N.C.
National Guard, is the largest activation of N.C. National
Guard soldiers since World War II. continued

decide to build two new residence hall projects they are
investigating. The two projects would
be located near Raley Hall and the Broyhill Inn & Conference

| AppalCART pulls more weight with high ridership |

transportation director of AppalCART, released a statement
announcing an increase in ridership of the AppalCART compared
to last year at this same time. Although
the increase is a good sign that the public transportation
system is doing well, the increase can lead to many challenges

| Write of passage: professional writing
concentration added |

The department
of English began offering a concentration in professional
writing last spring. “Professional
writing is part of the B.A. in English, and it’s 18-21
credit hours. English majors can choose to concentrate in
professional writing, or students can choose to minor in
English and focus their course work in the concentration,”
Dr. Joy Rouse, director of professional writing said.

| Senators voice concerns over Operation
Outreach program |

Senators raised
concern last Tuesday night about whether the Student Government
Association’s plan for reaching off-campus students
would succeed, and whether or not a backup plan existed if
it failed. The program, designated
in the past as “Operation: Outreach,” was reformatted
earlier this year to make it more efficient, said Callie
J. Hargett, director of internal affairs.
