Mountaineers' chance to make playoffs slips away after loss

The Appalachian State University football team’s hope of making the playoffs after a 1-3 start are officially on life support.

The Wofford College Terriers defeated the Mountaineers 24-14 Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C. behind 218 yards rushing, five forced turnovers and a little trickery.

Terrier linebacker Teddie Whitaker picked off an errant Eric Elsener pass in the third quarter and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown to give Wofford a 10-0 lead.

Brookes selected to play All-Star game, breaks ASU records

Appalachian State University senior Nara Brookes was selected to The National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South All-Star Game on Monday, according to a press release from the NFHCA.

The game will take place Saturday, Nov. 22 as part of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship Festivities in Amherst, Mass. Brookes found out Monday afternoon from ASU head coach Mandy Latz.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Brookes said. “I am nervous and excited, it’s going to be a lot of really good competition."

Students get taste of great outdoors

Sophomore Jaclyn Benzine couldn’t wait to announce the Appalachian State University Office of Outdoor Program’s upcoming trips.

“We’re really excited about the trips scheduled for this year and we want to get the word out and let students know what activities are available,” Benzine said.
