Appalachian sends Phoenix to ashes after weekend slaughter

Players from Elon University and ASU clashed two times during last Saturday’s match-up at Elon's Homecoming. Coaches and players expect Elon to be ASU’s next rival, and tension began early in the game.
Appalachian State University easily handled Elon University on Saturday, but their biggest victory wasn’t on the field.

More importantly for ASU, both Furman University and The Citadel lost in conference games later that day. Furman’s loss gives them three conference losses and The Citadel’s loss gives them five total losses.

It also eliminates both teams from the playoffs and puts ASU in sole possession of second place in the SoCon and in charge of their own playoff destiny.

Wrestlers hope to win SoCon again with help from new members by Hugh Kellenberger

Appalachian State University’s Wrestling program may be looking at a rebuilding year as head coach Paul Mance has to replace wrestlers in seven weight classes.

Five seniors from last year’s Southern Conference title winning team graduated, leaving Mance with half a first team to replace. Then sophomore Eric Burns and junior Sean McIntosh went down with season-ending injuries.

Men and Women’s Ultimate Frisbee by Michael Trivette

The Appalachian State University men’s and women’s Ultimate Frisbee teams held their first home tournament this past weekend.

The Blue Ridge Blowout featured seven women’s teams and 16 men’s teams from around the Southeast.

“It was a really fun tournament,” junior Andrew McClure said. “Everyone came with a great attitude and had a great time.”
