Carter Brothers return home for live show

The Carter Brothers Band comes back home to their roots for a live show tonight at 10 p.m. at Boone Saloon.

“It’s just like coming home to us because we lived there so long,” said vocalist Tim Carter, who also plays banjo, mandolin, guitar and harmonica. “We still have a lot of friends around that area.”

Vocalist and guitarist Danny Carter described their rise from playing small venues such as Rascals in Beech Mountain to touring internationally as a “long, strange trip.”

Faculty flute recital inaugurates School of Music season

In the first programmed faculty recital of the year, Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham will perform tonight in Rosen Concert Hall at 8 p.m.

Playing the flute, Schneeloch-Bingham will be accompanied by Michael Bell on harpsichord, Christina Hayes and Rodney Reynerson on piano and Douglas James on guitar.

The concept of a faculty recital program has existed as long as the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University.

Fairgrounds to host Bluegrass Festival

Once again, the Appalachian region is proud to host the third annual Boone Bluegrass Festival.
The festival will be held Sept. 10 from 3:30 to 10:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at High Country Fairgrounds in Boone.

Bluegrass fans eagerly await headliners such as singer-songwriter Rhonda Vincent, the Del McCoury Band and Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. This year’s line-up also includes The Osborne Brothers, Marty Raybon, Southern Accent and Amantha Mill in addition to several local acts.

“It’s really neat to be a part of something that you can really see growing,” three-year Boone Bluegrass Festival performing veteran Vincent said. “We’re very fortunate to be a part of it.”
Vincent will tour throughout much of North Carolina this year, performing to the large fan base that she has built in the state.
