Peacock on right track, needs to stay focused
Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock’s visit to the Rotary Club in North Wilkesboro, N.C., Monday night was his first in nearly 40 years. After a few jokes and giving his thanks to certain members of the crowd, Peacock shared some of his goals for Appalachian State University.

Commercials, not just football, make game
Over half of America will tune in Sunday for the biggest television event of the year.
Nearly 100 million people will be glued to their TV screens, not to watch the Patriots versus the Eagles, but to see Clydesdales playing football, frogs drinking beer and, if we’re lucky, “wardrobe malfunctions.”
This year, the only reason people will be watching the Super Bowl will be for entertainment, not the good ol’ fashioned pigskin that we’ve come to love.

Brown Ridge Mtns not so pleasant
I took a chemistry class my junior year of high school. We were asked to read two books from a list our teacher selected and to write reports on each, due on the second day of class.
I have never been much of a science person, but I have always been interested in environmental issues, so I selected a work by Michael H. Brown titled “The Toxic Cloud.”
