Moratorium halts large apartment complexes

The Boone Town Council addressed two possible moratoriums recently regarding housing development in Boone.
Only one moratorium, which suspends building apartment complexes with 24 or more units, was passed. The other proposal, which would have halted the construction of steep slope projects, was not approved.

WASU transmitter damaged in ice storm

The transmitter for Appalachian State University's radio station WASU was damaged during the ice storm at the end of January and left the station with no viable means of broadcasting over the radio.

Cable rates to increase

The Watauga County Board of Commissioners met Feb. 22 to speak with a representative of Charter Communications about the recent increase in cable rates and to open the issue for public comment.
At the beginning of February, Charter increased its rates for all packages except basic cable programming.

African Student Assoc. holds first meeting

Angelique Ugiliwabo spent the last four years planning on starting the African Student Association (AfSA). Her work came to life Thursday as the first meeting of the AfSA was held in the Multicultural Center with a turnout of approximately 40 people.
