Men's basketball lose first round bye in Elon loss, 58-55

Though it came down to the final shot, Elon University was able to outlast the Appalachian State men’s basketball team Saturday, 58-55.
With only 0:08 remaining on the clock and the score tied at 55, an ASU miscommunication left Elon sophomore Chris Chalko open to make a three-pointer.
The Mountaineers tried to answer as Noah Brown drove the lane and passed it to an open Nathan Cranford waiting behind the arc.
The three-point attempt looked on target, but rimmed out as the buzzer sounded to signal the Appalachian defeat.

Track star an inspiration to team

When anyone is little, they usually have a certain dream they wish to achieve.
For senior Jennifer Claud, she was almost too busy to have any big dreams.
“I danced, swam and started running track in seventh grade,” Claud said.
“I always wanted to get a scholarship, so that was probably the big goal of mine.”

It was a perfect night for the Appalachian State University women’s basketball team.
With less than three minutes left in the game, the team’s three seniors, Lindsay Smith, Michelle Conklin and Jessica Jank, joined hands and walked off the court together, reflecting on their last game at the Holmes Convocation Center.

Last weekend, the Appalachian State University track and field team the team proved they are the best in the Southern Conference.
With a combined margin of 16 points, Appalachian won both the men's and women's titles at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
