Pianist John Coffey and clarinetist Douglas Miller will perform together Monday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall, marking the start of the School of Music's faculty recital series.
Miller and Coffey will collaborate on several pieces, including works by Antonin Dvorak, Ferruccioi Busoni and Paul Jean Jean.
Miller serves as an assistant professor in the School of Music. Coffey, a widely-known musician from Hickory, performs with several groups, including the Western Piedmont Symphony.
Admission to the recital is free. For more information, call 262-3020.
"Colloquy," a sculpture designed by Iowa artist Thomas R. Stancliffe, now welcomes students outside John E. Thomas Hall.
The sculpture was commissioned through funds from North Carolina's Artworks for State Buildings Program, which reserved one-half of one percent of the building's construction budget for artwork. Made of bronze and galvanized steel, the sculpture is 17 feet high and has a diameter of two and a half feet.
Stancliffe's work was selected in a national competition. It was chosen out of 13 works by a panel of Appalachian representatives, Thomas Hall designers and area artists.
