So, it's Friday night in Boone and you only have five bucks to your name. You have to get out of your cell, oops, dorm room, and pictionary in the lobby just isn't going to cut it this time. What can you possibly do in Boone? Well, according to some students, a lot more than you think.
Five dollars in Boone can actually go pretty far for a college student. Depending on what your interests are, there is something out there for you.
"I like going to a dollar movie on King Street," says freshman Paris N. McCotter of Mount Holly. Even though it now costs $1.50, The Appalachian Theater is still a great way to keep costs down and enjoy an evening out with friends.
Other cheap favorites for the weekend were hanging out with friends and watching movies, listening to music, drinking beer, Kool-Aid, what-have-you.
"I like sitting around my apartment with friends, just hanging out and listening to music," says Aimee' St. Charles, a senior from Jacksonville. Her favorite hanging out music is techno-drum-and-bass dance music.
If you are more into the dancing and bar type of scene, Boone, although it may not be Charlotte, can still keep you from sitting at home bored and alone.
Cheryl F. Stankavage, a senior from New York, says that she likes going to the Charlie Horse with her friends to dance and just hang out.
Still feel like there isn't anything out there for you? Well, don't give up hope yet. You can always find something to do if you have the right frame of mind.
Senior Charles L. Corpening of Morganton says he likes going to Wal-Mart and hanging out at the picnic tables, just to watch people go by. He says that you can see a lot of interesting people that way.
Probably the most popular and inexpensive activities in the area is anything outdoors. There are tons of hiking trails, lakes, and parks in the area, and most are free of charge.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is perhaps one of the most frequented places visited by A.S.U. students during their time here.
No matter what your interests are, Boone is a great place to be for inexpensive, high quality fun.
