Representing Appalachian State University’s Student Government Association on the state level, SGA Chairman of State Affairs Nick Schuster was appointed vice-president of state affairs of the University of North Carolina Association of Student Government (UNC-ASG).
Appointed by the UNC-ASG president, Schuster began to attend the monthly meetings last year out of curiosity, he said.
“I went to a couple of UNC-ASG meetings last year and got involved,” he said. “It turned out really well, and I’m excited about my involvement.”
Keeping tuition and student fees low, increasing technology and equity funding, and increasing graduate student participation in the UNC-ASG are the main issues of concern in the state affairs committee, Schuster said.
Schuster anticipates a strong student representation in UNC-ASG. He also expects delegates to be pro-active this year.
“Things are just getting started right now [within UNC-ASG],” he said. “It will be exciting to see how things develop later in the year.”
UNC-ASG is a representation of the 16 UNC system campuses, said Schuster. Each campus sends four delegates and each delegate has a vote, he said.
The organization holds its monthly meetings in Chapel
Hill’s General Administration Building.
