Due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the next issue of the Appalachian will be published January 22.

Sugar Mountain Discounts

Discounts are available to all Appalachian State University students who head to Sugar Mountain Ski Area mid-week. The resort offers low-price skiing Tuesday through Thursday days and Sunday through Thursday nights, excluding holidays.

Discounts include Day or Twilight Tickets for $22 (regular price, $28); 1/2 Day Tickets for $14 (regular price, $21); and Night Tickets for $14 (regular price, $18). Students need only show a valid university photo I.D. to receive a discount.

School of Music Events

Three main events highlight the January schedule of Appalachian State University's School of Music.

The Fletcher Scholars Recital is scheduled for Jan. 20, followed by the Keyboard Faculty Recital on Jan. 27 and the Ensemble Showcase Series on Jan. 30. The Ensemble Showcase features the Shelby High School Orchestra.

Each event begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center. Admission will be charged for the keyboard recital, but all other events are free. Contact the School of Music (262-3-2-) or the High Country Bulletin Board (265-0470, ext. 155) for additional information.
 

1998-99 Education Scholarships

Applications for 1998-99 ASU teacher education scholarships are now available through the Reich College of Education, Edwin Duncan Hall.

Scholarships range from $300 to $800 per semester and are offered to juniors or seniors seeking a bachelor of science degree with teaching certification.
Selection is based on academic standing, commitment to teaching, and leadership ability and potential.

Applications are available in room 221 Edwin Duncan Hall and are due Feb. 15, along with a current transcript and reference forms.
 

Student Art Display

The student union's Looking Glass Gallery will house creations by budding artists through Jan. 30, in a collection dubbed "Collaborations: Works by ASU Students."

The exhibit explores the artistic cooperation between student artists and members of their families and their communities, as well as other students and artists.

A Jan. 22 reception will honor the artists, beginning at 6 p.m. Visitors may view the collection from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., weekdays. Contact gallery director Steven Severt at 262-8320 for details or more information.
