Health Fair sponsored by Wellness Center
Ric Beard, Staff Writer
The annual Health Fair sponsored by the Wellness Center will take place on Wednesday, March 25, in the Grandfather Mountain Ball Room of the Plemmons Student Union from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. No admission will be charged.
Included in the festivities will be a mountain bike exhibition by Rock ‘n’ Roll Sports, kick boxing demonstrations and free mocktails.
Students from the Wellness Peer Educators Program are what Coordinator of Wellness Programs Kit Olsen calls “integral parts of putting on this health fair.”
Office Manager of the Wellness Center, Susan Witmer, said that “information on wellness issues, whether they are sports-related, physiological or things relating to careers” will be some of the topics discussed at the fair.
Booths will be set up to advise other students on issues such as car safety, healthy diets and skin care.
According to Olsen, other offerings at the fair include a cholesterol screening ($5), blood sugar screening ($2) and free information on how to quit smoking.
Information on body piercing, permanent and temporary tatoos and massage will also be offered to students who are interested, said Olsen.
According to Olsen, there are other advantages to attending the health fair.
“This is also a good time to expose yourselves to some fun ways to improve your health,” she said.
Door prizes will be given away at the fair, and WASU will be broadcasting live.
