Solar Oven Cook-Off

Aluminum foil, cardboard and the sun will help transform Sanford Mall into an outdoor pizzeria Wednesday, April 22.

Area residents and members of the Appalachian community are invited to participate in a solar box-oven pizza cook-off sponsored by the ASU Solar Energy Society.  The contest is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with judging beginning at 1 p.m.

In case of rain, the event will be held under the portico outside  the Plemmons Student Union’s Cascades Cafe.

University Police Forums

Candidates for the Director of Public Safety and the University Police Department will speak in open forum format to members of the ASU community.

This afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Whitener Hall, room 104, Laurie Austen-Kern will present a community policing presentation.

On Thursday, April 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., candidate Willie Bell Jr. will present his ideas using the open forum in Whitener Hall, room 104.
 

Earth Day Activities

Solar demonstrations, speakers, open forums, global warming presentations and music will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in celebration of Earth Day.

The Earth Day activities will be held on Sanford Mall.  In case of rain, they will be held in the Plemmons Student Union.

These activities are presented by the ASU Solar Energy Society, SAVE, PAL and a Technology and Culture graduate class.
 
 

Taste of the High Country

A variety of foods will be offered at Habitat for Humanity’s Taste of the High Country at the Broyhill Inn on April 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 and under.  All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity.

Bone Marrow Drive

A bone marrow drive sponsored by Alpha Delta Pi will be held Wednesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Linville Falls Room in the Plemmons Student Union.

Two small vials of blood will be taken in effort to put people on the National Bone Marrow Registry.

Tonight at Caribbean Cafe, Venus Flytrap will be playing.  The cost is $3 per person with $1 for raffle tickets.  All proceeds go to the bone marrow drive.
