Legends facade to be finished early September

The second phase of renovations to Appalachian State University’s own nightclub, Legends, is still underway, despite missing its initial estimated Aug. 1 deadline for completion.

According to Randy Kelly, manager of Legends, the construction delays were caused by a mistake in an architectural drawing.

The new deadline is set for the second week of September.

Kelly said that the “Back to School” dance and other events scheduled before the deadline will still be held at Legends.  However, students will use an alternate side entrance.

Kelly also emphasized that the “new” Legends will have more stage lighting, accent lights, and a smoke machine which will complete an effort to update Legends to the “new look” of campus.

The second phase of renovations includes tearing down the damaged facade and replacing it with a modern brick facade.

The new Legends will have a more formal double entrance with a much larger lobby and extended doors.

Additionally, a new Legends sign will be placed toward the corner of the building where it can be seen easily from Hardin Street.

The renovations, which cost an estimated $225,000, are being completed by Wilkie Construction Co., Inc., which has worked with ASU before on various projects.

The construction costs are covered by Student Union fees.

Doug Urban, a superintendent with Wilkie Construction Co. Inc., said that the new Legends facade will give it “a more permanent look.”
