We, the staff of The Appalachian, would like to welcome you, the students of Appalachian State University, to Boone for another school year, or your first school year, for those of you who are part of the largest freshman class in the history of ASU.
We would also like to take this opportunity to invite you all to come call us or visit us if you want a job, want to see something covered in our paper, or even if you want to complain about something we have written.
Our newspaper is your voice as students. We, as an editorial board, try to bring ASU students news that is interesting and important to you.
Let us say that again, we want to provide STUDENTS with information that is important to them. Of course, our paper is read by faculty, administrators, parents and alumni, but it is for you, the students of Appalachian State, that we are here, producing this newspaper twice a week.
To do this, we need your help.
We need people who are willing to come and work for us in all areas, to be a part of our family.
We specifically encourage freshmen to come out, because we know that you often bring a high level of excitement and eagerness to learn to the job.
Remember, you don’t have to be a communications major or even have newspaper experience to join our staff. We love to teach. Heck, our Editor-in-Chief is a history/secondary education major who had no newspaper experience whatsoever before he walked in our door as a freshman, four years ago.
For those of you out there who have felt that, in the past, we have not given your group, organization or activity any or enough coverage, please tell us. We put our phone numbers on the front page of our newspaper for a reason. Try as we might, we will never be able to find out about everything that is going on or every interesting person or group, unless you tell us.
And if you find yourself upset at something we have written or something we forgot to cover, by all means, write us a letter, and we’ll publish it. We have always found that students seem to enjoy reading our “Letters to the Editor” very much, especially when they are written by people who are pissed off at us.
Our office is located on the second floor of the student union, across from the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.
Remember, our door is open to everyone, so please come see us.
Thank you for visiting The Appalachian Online. We hope you enjoy browsing our site to catch up on the latest news that affects Appalachian State University and our community. We welcome your ideas and suggestions.
