Opportunity
for a Summer Job
Are you interested in leading group discussions, advising
new students, giving campus tours and performing in a skit? If so, apply
to be a Student Orientation Leader during Freshman and Transfer Orientation
sessions for the summer and fall 1999.
Applications can be obtained in the Academic Advising
Center, Office of General Studies, 154 Rankin Hall. Completed applications
and references are due by Friday, February 5, 1999. Employment will be
June 28 - July 31 and August 14 - 17. Compensation is $1,100 plus a single
room and some meals provided.

SGA Senate
Seats Available
Any student interested in Student Government is encouraged
to apply for one of the current senate vacancies. Come by the SGA office,
room 213, on the second floor of the Student Union to pick up a petition.
You do not need to be elected to fill a seat.
1999 Apartment Fair
On Wednesday, January 27, Student Government will be
sponsoring the third annual Apartment Fair. The fair will be held in the
Student Union from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the lobby outside Tradewinds
Coffee House. Several local area apartment managers will be present to
answer any questions and distribute information about the local apartment
complexes. For all students planning to move off campus next year, this
is a great opportunity to learn about rent rates, locations, and the advantages
and disadvantages of living off campus.

Life
The Office of Residence Life is now accepting applications
for Resident Assistant positions for the 1999-2000 school year. The Resident
Assistant position offers a wide variety of experiences including, but
not limited to: community building, policy enforcement, counseling, and
administrative duties. RAs walk away from the experience having gained
the following life skills:
• Time management
• Communication
• Planning
• Mediation
• Organization
• Working with people
Successful candidates will have and maintain a cumulative
GPA of 2.25, have lived on campus for at least one semester, and be in
good judicial standing.
Compensation is $3,190 per year.
How to apply:
• Applications are available in the Office of Housing
and Residence Life on the Third Floor of the John Thomas Building or from
your Resident Director. Stop by your front desk during duty hours and ask
one of the RAs for an application. They will be happy to assist you.
• After completing your application and soliciting your
two references, make sure to turn your completed application in to your
Resident Director or to the front desk of the Housing and Residence Life
Office in the John Thomas Building, Suite 321.

Baxter-Magolda
Lecture
Marcia Baxter-Magolda, author of Knowing and Resoning
in College and Professor of Educational Leadership at Miami University,
will speak in Grandfather Mountain Ballroom on Friday, January 22 at 10:00
a.m. Baxter-Magolda’s scholarship addresses the evolution of epistemological
development in college and young adult life, the role of gender in development,
and pedagogy to promote epistemological development. She was recently named
as one of forty young leaders in academe by Change magazine.
All are invited to this free event.

Winter
Wonderland Gala Ticket Sales
Ticket sales to the Winter Wonderland Gala at Legends
on Saturday, January 30 have been extended to Wednesday, January 27. The
$10 price of the ticket includes buffet, beverages, and entertainment by
Chairmen of the Board. Valet parking, coat check, and a photographer will
be available. Tickets may be purchased at Plemmons Student Union and Farthing
Auditorium.

Blue
Shift Theatre Ensemble presents “Sport”
Strikes in the NBA. Super Bowl Sunday approaching. Just
when you thought the world of professional athletics couldn’t get crazier,
somebody shows up to prove you wrong. Join the Blue Shift Theatre Ensemble
as it presents “Sport,” a fast-paced, physical comedy about the world of
professional athletics on January 29 and 30 in the Valborg Theatre. Evening
performances will begin at 8:00 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on January
30. The final evening will also feature performances by ASU alumni of the
Department of Theatre and Dance. Proceeds from the show will go to benefit
the Jenny Walton Memorial Award Fund. Tickets are $5 for students and $8
