 Two students arrested on drug charges

Two students were arrested  April 8 on drug charges, according to the Appalachian State University Police.

Fred Coleman Blakenly, 19, resident of Justice Residence Hall, was arrested on felony possession with intent to maintain, sell and deliver marijuana; sale and delivery of marijuana; and maintaining a place for keeping controlled substances.  

All were felony charges.

Kyle Mark Austin, 19, a non- student at Appalachian State was charged with felony possession with intent to maintain, sell and deliver marijuana; sale and delivery of marijuana; and maintaining a place for keeping controlled substances.  

“(Maintaining a place for keeping controlled substances) means that he is using a dwelling for keeping controlled substances in,” said Captain Larry Foster of the University Police. 

Both men were taken before a Watauga County magistrate and were detained on $3,000 secured bond.

The court date was set for May 17.

Additionally, James Edward Hollingsworth, 18, of Gardner Residence Hall was arrested on April 6.  

He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to maintain, sell and deliver marijuana; two counts of sale and delivery of marijuana; one count of possession with intent to maintain, sell and deliver psilocybin mushrooms; and one count of maintaining a dwelling for control substances.

He was placed on a $5,000 secured bond.  

The court date was set for May 17.
