Police Department warns of rise in weather-related accidents
Cyrerra Crumrine Police Beat

Despite Boone’s Indian summer, winter weather is quickly approaching.  During the first few days of winter, the Boone Police Department usually receives an increase in the number of traffic accidents so they would like to remind everyone of the dangers of driving in winter weather.
When driving in snow and ice, drivers should use common sense and drive with extreme caution.

Driving with reduced speeds and allowing for a greater following distance between vehicles will compensate somewhat for reduced traction due to snow and ice on the roadway.

Be sure your tires are equipped with proper snow tires or chains to help aid in traction.

Drivers should also be aware of “black ice” caused from temperatures falling below the freezing point and freezing water on the roadway.

Black ice is extremely dangerous because drivers cannot always recognize it on the roadway.

For more tips or information on driving in winter weather, call Sgt. Tim Vines of the Boone Police Department at 262-4500.
