According to unofficial results released Tuesday evening, voters overwhelmingly approved the sale of liquor by the drink within Boone town limits.

The polls  officially closed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

There were 1,106 votes cast  in favor of the referendum and 408 votes against, for a total of 1,515 votes.

The early voting period as well showed the desire for liquor in Boone, bringing in a total of 704 votes with 520 of those being for the sale of mixed drinks. 

 
Appalachian submits requests for more housing

Members of the Student Development Office and Appalachian State University administration proposed a zoning request to Boone Town Council today to rezone Mountaineer territory.

The property being considered for rezoning is located west of the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center.

 
University benefits, adapts to G-Mail

All Appalachian State University students will soon see improvements to their e-mail messaging.

“Students will still have [ This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ] e-mail addresses, but their e-mail services will be partnered with Google,” Director of Technology Support Services Tom M. Van Gilder said.

 
Construction continues on dining facility

While students prepare for a change of classes, professors and living arrangements, the university is also going through a few changes.

Increasingly  poor conditions of the structure of Welborn Dining Hall have caused the university to construct a new dining facility.

 
Fraternity, sorority joins campus Greek life

As Greek life at Appalachian State University begins recruitment for the fall semester, students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority will find two new additional choices.

The Interfraternity Council fraternities will welcome Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Alpha Omicron Pi will join the Panhellenic Council sororities at Appalachian.
