I visited Death Row last week.
I was there with Kim Gunter’s English class, covering their story.
All semester, they’ve been researching and discussing capital punishment, and last week, we walked the halls of Raleigh’s Central Prison, the last halls that more than 1,000 inmates have ever seen, ever walked.
Before I got there, I expected to see what I saw in movies, on television: drugged-out-looking addicts in orange jumpsuits, scowling behind bars.

In front of a record crowd at
Rhodes Stadium, Appalachian State defeated Elon 27-10 to clinch at least a
share of the Southern Conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA
Division I Football Championship.
The Mountaineer defense played
great early, holding the Phoenix
to 43 yards and intercepting quarterback Scott Riddle three times in the first
quarter. Riddle had only thrown four picks on the year before the game.
Appalachian’s offense was able to
capitalize on the turnovers, scoring after each interception.

Appalachian State got Buzz
Peterson’s second head coaching stint off on the right foot Friday
night as they downed the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington 79-68 at the Holmes
Convocation Center.
The Mountaineers got off to
a slow start, turning the ball over three times in the first four minutes
of play. ASU did not score its first points until 18:00 left in the half.
Appalachian shook off the rust
after the under-16 minute media timeout, thanks in part to the play
of Isaac Butts.

What a surprise, the Can’thers
drop a game against the undefeated Saints they had to have. After John
Fox huddles into his conservative shell at the end, the Saints take
over and dump the Panthers into a hole they can’t realistically climb
out of.
So who do you blame now, Fox
or Delhomme?
Frankly, I no longer care.
Hey Apps, beat Elon!
Overall record to this point,
86-40
