Singer songwriter Colbie Caillat sold out Farthing Auditorium Apr. 15. Students, community members and fans from across the state traveled to hear Caillat’s easy-listening, tropical and peaceful voice.

Following her performance, Caillat took time to sit down with The Appalachian and discuss her career, musical influences and life as a typical 22 year old experiencing life, love and changes.

The Appalachian: Do the lyrics from your songs come from relationships or situations you have been in?

Colbie Caillat: I don’t intentionally write about romance or certain events, it’s just what I’m feeling, and I’m a 22-year-old girl, so girls relate and it just happens that way.

If college students needed another reason to avoid trips to other countries, The Ruins provides it.

The Ruins is a rather smart horror movie to be based around a bunch of drunken college kids. Each character is smart…that’s right I’ll say it again; they’re smart. I know this is unheard of in a horror movie but The Ruins delivers.

So here is the plot. On a break from school, two couples recently graduated college students are enjoying soaking up the sunrays and tequila in Mexico.

At first glance 21 may appear to be a weak attempt at Casino but it’s not. This half fiction/half true story steady paced drama is, surprisingly, not trying to copy anybody, but instead, roughly tell the story of six MIT students who made Vegas history.

21 follows Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe) a super smart
MIT student trying to get into Harvard Medical School. Being dealt with little
money and a lack of life experience to “dazzle” the scholarship donors with, Ben
is sure that his dream of becoming a doctor will never happen.
