The burglars entered through the side window of the store, Bare Bones Boutique Manager, Wanda Gragg, said.
“We had just installed cameras, but they were not yet hooked up to the monitors,” Gragg said.
“We don’t have any suspects for the crime, yet,” Boone Police Captain William Greene said.
“It’s hard to speculate why someone targeted this store.”
The thrift store serves as a year-round fund-raiser for the humane society.
Since the robbery, the store has worked to get things organized so it can reopen as soon as possible.
The incident has upset several students, especially ones who have previously supported the humane society and adopted pets.
“I can’t understand why anyone would want to steal from the humane
society, especially when they do the wonderful things they do on a
tight budget as it is,” Smeeta A. Lavani, junior psychology major and
humane society pet owner, said.
Funding for the humane society comes solely from donations and fundraisers, according to their Web site.
Bare Bones Boutique is not the humane society’s main fundraiser but it is a daily contributor to their resources.
