Coordinators for dance marathon this year are shuffling their feet faster than usual to try and rile student participation.
For the first time, the event will not be held as a part of Homecoming, which poses a threat to student awareness and involvement.

University students are hoping dance marathon’s fourth year will exceed
last year’s community contribution.
Community service coordinator for ACT, Jenny Koehn, said the
organization hopes to raise over $25,000 this year through dance
marathon.
Last year, the marathon raised over $21,000 for the Western Youth
Network and Parent to Parent, two organizations aimed at helping
parents and children in the Watauga County area.
Dance marathon’s past connection with Homecoming offered incentives for participating groups, such as Homecoming points.
ACT’s special events coordinator Kendra M. Johnson said recruiting
people is harder this year because individual sign-up translates to
fewer incentives.
People will have to sign up out of the goodness of their hearts, she said.
In order to help with the dance marathon funding, coordinators are looking at other ways to raise money.
These routes have included a letter writing campaign, a petition to
alumni, a canned food drive and asking for donations at events like
football games.
Other concerns stem from the signature Boone briskness of the season.
Johnson said this year, dance marathon will be held predominately
inside Legends with a fewer trips made outside due to weather
precautions.
Registration begins Tuesday and lasts through Oct. 3.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. Nov. 18 to 9 a.m. Nov. 19.
