Eastern North Carolina: where your daily uniform could consist of sunscreen and a swimsuit. Those who give credit to the Westside have obviously never been to the Eastside of North Carolina. Here are the top 10 reasons why ENC is the best:
1. People
ENC is full of care free, easy going folks. I say folks intentionally. Here, you will find neighbors who are truly neighborly.
2. Food
One of the reasons people continue to visit ENC is the food. Drive
through any town and you will see at least two seafood restaurants and
a BBQ joint.
Since the seafood comes straight off the boat and onto your plate, the dining is cheap and delicious.
Also, ENC’s BBQ boasts the best sauce –which is vinegar based instead of Western North Carolina’s ketchup-based goop.
3. Music
I love beach music—it’s not just a song you hear the Embers sing—it’s a
mantra. It might be hard to understand if you’ve never been shagging at
the Seafood Festival in Morehead City, but I dare you to try it out and
not see what all the fuss is about.
Remember, our state dance is the shag.
4. Fun
Surfing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, boating, fishing or just sun bathing keep ENC folks happy.
There’s something about breathing in salty ocean air that makes your
heart beat faster when you see the Atlantic. The Outer Banks, or OBX,
is one of the top surfing spots in the country.
Seriously bro, check it out.
5. History
Step into ENC and you’re stepping into a place rich with history.
Bath and New Bern, the two oldest cities in North Carolina, boast
colonial mansions and abundant heritage. Our forefathers settled here
for its easy access to ports and most likely spectacular water views.
6. Hollywood of the East?
If you’re a fan of Dawson’s Creek or One Tree Hill (come on, admit it),
thank Wilmington for that. Yep, Joey and Dawson filmed the series in
Wilmington. The town of Tree Hill—that’s also Wilmington.
7. We’ve got good genes
North Carolina raise up with famous N.C. rapper Petey Pablo, straight out of Greenville.
Though Charlie Daniels sang about Georgia, he’s from Wilmington, and so is basketball legend Michael Jordan.
8. Weather
Pleasant temperatures year round make ENC ideal. Flip-flops are worn all year.
Plus, school systems and government offices close down at the slightest snow flurry, so enjoy those extra days off.
9. Pepsi
True North Carolinians know the joys of an ice cold Pepsi. Caleb Bradham invented the soft drink in New Bern in 1898.
10. Flight
The state’s biggest claim to fame can be found on nearly every N.C. license plate.
The Wright Brother’s historic first flight occurred in Kitty Hawk. So the next time you fly, give it up for ENC.
