Valentine’s Day is accepted as one of the most important couples’ holidays.
It can be a fun celebration, but for the average college student, this holiday can become expensive.
Here are a few tips to help plan a fun and memorable Valentine’s date for $30 or less:
The Gift:
There is, of course, the typical box of chocolates that’s available to you at any of the major grocery stores or Wal-Mart.
These are generally $5 or less as long as you don’t go overboard.
Flowers are another popular gift.
Although roses can be very expensive, especially at this time of year,
you could consider a single rose or even a bouquet of a variety of
daisies or another inexpensive flower.
When done the right way, all flowers can be just as impressive as a dozen roses.
If you need a more definite price on your gift, you could buy a gift
certificate or card with an exact amount from your Valentine’s favorite
store.
An even more frugal and personal attempt at this gift is to create your own gift certificates.
These can be redeemed for more time together, a date night in the future, a movie of their choice and many other creative ideas.
Consider baking your Valentine a special gift.
You can pick out cake mix or even a simple batch of cookie dough.
You can even make it more personal by picking up decorative icing and adding a personal message to your gift.
The Date:
There are many common ideas for the date, such as dinner and a movie,
but with rising movie ticket prices and expensive restaurants, that may
not be a feasible plan.
Instead, consider cooking dinner for your date and renting a movie.
Or if you really feel the need to go out and have the convenience of
you AppCard, take advantage of a romantic dinner at the Broyhill Inn.
This will allow you a fancy meal without using your own cash, and you can also tip with you card.
If you still want to take in a movie, you could consider the discount
movies available at Carmike Appalachian on West King Street.
The movies are only $2 and still offer the opportunity to go out and have a romantic night with your
date.
