NASCAR has nothing on the Appalachian State University speed-dating track.
The speed-dating event, sponsored by the Appalachian Popular Programming Society’s Special Events Council, will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The event will take place in the Summit Trail Solarium in Plemmons Student Union.
“When you are interacting, you need to be focused on the other person
that you are paired with,” Jeff Zapletal, Special Events Council
advisor, said. “The Solarium really provides that environment, so that
is why we are hosting the event there.”
The event is free, and open to all students.
There is no limit on the number of people who can speed date as long as they are pre-registered.
The Solarium will be closed to all students except those that are participating in the speed-dating event.
“This is a really good opportunity for students to meet someone that
they otherwise would not have met outside of residence halls and
classrooms,” Zapletal said.
This is the second year the event will be available on Appalachian State’s campus.
When the daters come in, the speed-dating process will be briefly
explained and tips will be given to the daters about how to make the
best of their brief time with their partners.
The daters will have a brief interaction of five minutes to complete their first date interview.
After each date, the daters will have a sheet and will check “yes” or “no” next to the person they just had a speed date with.
Then, the council will pair the daters off and send their contact information to each other.
Only if the daters both put a “yes” for each other, and are considered
matches, will they be able to see the other person’s contact
information.
APPS agreed to give daters free tickets to the Winter Gala if they
choose the event as their first “date” option once they are paired off.
For more information or to register, stop by the contact table today, go to the APPS office or visit the www.apps.appstate.edu.
