Business fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon announces the 8th annual “Tee’n It Up For Charity Golf Tournament” to be held April 14.
The tournament is open to students, staff, faculty and community members and player registration ends April 1.
Thomas W. Tuck, PSE vice president of marketing, said the annual golf tournament is “one of our big events of the year for our philanthropy.”
The proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Kay Reid Fulkerson Child Development Center in Watauga County.
“We always try to give to something local to benefit the community,” Tuck said.
PSE President Stephen D. Sasser said the child development center was
chosen due to its close proximity to Appalachian State University and
low funding.
“We didn’t want to give to a national program where we wouldn’t see the benefits,” Sasser said.
The tournament will be held at Jefferson Landing New River Golf Course in Jefferson.
The cost is $75 per player and $65 for Appalachian students.
Tuck said last year’s tournament drew 52 players, and he hopes to reach 72 this year.
“That would be a full tournament. We would have 18 holes with four people at each hole,” Tuck said.
Tuck also hopes to raise $2,000 this year, an increase from last year’s $1,500.
The tournament will include breakfast, as well as contests including
putting, longest drive, shortest drive and closest to the pin.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m., Tuck said.

The tournament currently has many on-campus and community sponsors. Additional organizations or
businesses interested in sponsoring the event should contact Tuck.
Sponsorship packages include T-shirt sponsorship for $50, hole sponsorship for $100 and others.
“The money we raised at last year’s tournament was used to let a child
go to the center whose parents could not afford to pay for [the
service],” Sasser said.
“The fees for the tournament, you might pay that to play somewhere nice
anyway,” Sasser said. “With this, you could win a prize, and you are
helping a good cause.”
PSE, a co-ed marketing fraternity, has been at Appalachian since 1979
and has no business pre-requisites to be accepted, Tuck said.
“Anything you go into, you will be marketing yourself,” Tuck said.
PSE activities include speakers and clinics on finances, resumes, interviews and marketing products,
Tuck said.
