Appalachian State University announced May 22 Allison Gregory as the newest assistant coach to join the ASU women’s basketball staff.

“I am very excited that Allison is joining our staff and program,” ASU head coach Adrienne Shuler said. “I believe her commitment to excellence and passion for the game will be contagious to our players.”

A 2002 graduate from Georgia Southern University, Gregory helped lead the Golden Eagles to two Southern Conference Championships during her colligate career.

Gregory will be looked upon to bring her experience and success as a player in the SoCon to the Mountaineer staff.

“Her familiarity with the conference, having played at Georgia Southern and being a part of a winning program, allows her to understand the type of athlete required to be successful in this league,” Shuler said.

After graduating from Georgia Southern with a degree in physical education, Gregory took her winning ways to Reinhardt College. At Reinhardt, she served as assistant varsity coach of the women’s basketball program as well as head coach of the junior varsity program.

During her four-year stay at Reinhardt College, the team improved from a 6-26 season in 2002-03 to a 20-13 record in 2003-04 and had two freshmen named to the conference all-freshmen team.

From 2005-07, Gregory was the women’s assistant coach at NAIA school Auburn University of Montgomery in Alabama.

She worked as the team’s recruiting advisor and academic liaison.

During her two-year stint at AUM, Gregory compiled a 46-18 record.

In 2006-07, the team went 28-6 overall and 17-3 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

“All the programs she has been associated with have had immediate success from one season to the next,” Shuler said.

Gregory will join an ASU staff that consists of former colligate players such as assistant coach Lindsay Smith, who was a four-year starter for the Mountaineers basketball program from 2002 to 2005, as well as assistant coach Britt King, who was a star power-forward for Providence University.

“She has had the opportunity to learn under different coaches that have been very successful,” Shuler said. “I welcome her ideas and thoughts on the game as well as recruiting strategies in bringing success to our program.”
