Summers in Boone can really make you question why those summer classes seemed like a good idea when you signed up.
Everyone is home for vacation, campus is a ghost town and there seems to be nothing going on anywhere that could pose as any kind of entertainment.
Have no fear, there are some extracurricular escape going on right outside the borders of campus that can bring an end to your summertime woes.

Lovewhip
Massachusetts’
Lovewhip has a sound inspired by everything from Blondie to Beck and
Sean Paul to the B52’s. The project began with
frontwoman/guitarist/singer Erin Harpe and bassist Jim Countryman.
“Lovewhip is
dance music. We are part of Boston's underground but up-and-coming
electro scene and they create a live show that is rooted in fun with
the passionate vocals and dance moves of the soulful electro-rock diva,
Erin Harpe a.k.a. Empress Erin,” Countryman said.
“Able to get any
room going by shaking her infamous booty, [Harpe] also rips out
screaming electric guitar riffs as she taunts and teases the crowd.
People should come to the Lovewhip show because they need it. Get your
freak on to forget the mess the world is in. Come on out and dance,” he
said.

The Actuaries is made up of guitarist/vocalist Josh Cole, guitarist
Nathan Sheets, bassist Dustin Walker, keyboardist Steve Dave, drummer
Adam Cole and tambourine/handclaps and hypemaker Cody Lamanack.
“I guess if I
had to describe our band I would say that we're a rock n' roll band
that plays songs about how when the going gets tough, you just gotta
keep on keepin' on,” Cole said.
The Actuaries are a rock band whose influences include The Kinks, Neil Young and The Flying Burrito Bros.
The Actuaries give good reason for everyone to make it out to their show Wednesday night.
“It'll be an
unforgettable night of rock n' roll majesty including sexy,
sweat-drenched cowboy shirts, and we'll be giving out free Twizzlers,”
Cole said.
Why Twizzlers,
you ask? We feel that, of all candy, Twizzlers represent our sound the
most, because a.) they're chewy and delicious, b.) they're full of
twists and turns, and c.) they can be used as a straw.”
Vocalist/guitarist
Brent Bishop and bassist Scott Rogers formed another Boone band, the C
Monsters.
Wednesday’s band lineup will differ from the usual for the C
Monsters with Bishop and Kaysie Cozart teaming up with Thomas McNeely.
“I think we have
a sort of Indie Rock sound with some various styles mixed in,” Bishop
said. “We have everything from piano, violin, synthesizers and
sometimes cello mixed in our sound.”
