Pardon our newspaper construction Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 July 2007
For those of you who have ventured your way through the pages of The Appalachian today you might have noticed a few differences that have made their way onto our pages.  An extra column here, a change of font there, and even something on the back page to catch your interest.

Yes, just like the rest of Appalachian State University we are currently under construction.

Summertime is an opportunity to try new things and to throw yourself out there and see what you can do. It’s a time when there might not be quite as many people around so you feel more comfortable, crawling out of your shell and doing something you might not normally do.

Just like you may be doing a little self-improvement this summer with a new workout plan, or by reading a book you never had a chance to read because of classes, we are also making some changes and switching up some of our design elements to improve ourselves.

We know that there aren’t quite as many readers as usual and we are sure that you will be kind to us as we try and transform into something just a little bit better for you.

We at The Appalachian would like to point out some of our new ideas so that you feel more comfortable with the changes we will be making over the next two issues.

The editorial board of The Appalachian felt that our section heads needed to have more of a correlation with the other texts used in the paper and wanted a sleaker look.  So you will notice a change in the words at the top of our Lifestyles, News, Opinion and Sports pages.

We will also be adding side bars to both the Lifestyles, Sports and News sections so that our readers will have more information about upcoming events, games and online exclusives.

The Appalachian has also decided to redirect our Sports section to the back page of the newspaper as a new reader entry into the paper.

One of the other changes includes the Opinion page. This section will now flow more freely in terms of columns, commentaries, cartoons and design. And for all the Sudoku fans out there, we will continue having Sudoku’s but they will now be only once a week and will be located on the Opinion page.

Finally, we will include a significant increase of online teasers. We believe that your news should be as timely as possible and what better place to find up to the minute news than online at
theapp.appstate.edu.

We believe that these changes will assist readers with more accurate on and off campus news.

To the right is just a small example of how we have evolved this summer at The Appalachian. Please send comments and suggestions to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
