Trendy transitions into fall fashion Print E-mail

Now that your summer wardrobe is finally complete thanks to all the end of summer sales it’s time to pack it all away.

Or is it?

Fall trends this year have a summer twist on them which is good news for most college students with limited funding.

Having a sound foundation is crucial when it comes to architectural design. Fashion design is no
different.

A key thing that helps transition summer clothing to fall  attire is footwear. Brightly colored flats and flip flops should take a hike and be replaced with full length and ankle boots, pumps or banded flats according to InStyle Magazine.

Boone isn’t exactly four inch heal friendly but flat boots in suede and leather are in as are banded flats in jewel tones.

For comfort, opt for flats with an elastic band instead of a stiff one, elastic will stretch allowing you to hike up the 50 steps in front of Eggers Residence Hall.

Check stores like Maurices and Rue 21 for some inexpensive choices. Banded flats can be worn with all summer dresses, skirts and shorts.

Most stylists would not recommend wearing them with the wide legged summer trousers.

One way to take that sundress into the fall is to pair it with a pair of brown not black cowboy boots. A good place to look for cowboy boots is King Street. Many vintage and specialty shops will carry these boots.

To maximize usage of all those summer sleeveless clothing it is important to find coverage for dropping temperatures. A preppy button up sweater fits nicely over a dress and is easily belted at the waist so that the shape of the outfit is not lost.

A few great places to find many basic clothes that will help transition your wardrobe are Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic.

All three offer basic sweaters, wide legged khaki pants and this season’s must have white button up shirt.

These sister stores offer similar items and varying prices. Where you end up will most likely depend on how much money you actually managed to save from your three summer jobs.

Old Navy’s Women’s Classic Button-Front Shirt is $24.50 compared to similar products from Gap at $39.50 and Banana Republic at $58.00.

Another useful fashion fall trend this year is white. You can throw out the “no white after Labor Day” rule faster than last week’s leftovers.

White on white is especially classic this fall, but white still goes with most everything so tossing it on over your summer tank tops paired with your favorite pair of jeans creates a simple look that is easy to
accessorize.

Grey graced the run way, too. Grey is another color that pretty well goes with any other color and any shade of grey is acceptable for fall. Designers like Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein sent models adorned in grey down the catwalk.

So before you pack up and send home all your summer clothing take a minute to see what you can rollover into your fall wardrobe.
