The Appalachian State University women’s soccer team has added 17 new recruits as it tries to expand its streak of non-losing seasons to five and capture a Southern Conference tournament win.
In the 2006 season, the Mountaineers went 9-9-1 with five SoCon wins. They made it to the SoCon Tournament but fell to Furman University in the first round.
The five conference wins was the second highest in the 13-year history of the program.
This year’s leader will be senior mid-fielder Jackie Hoffman, as a season ago she was voted to the All-SoCon second team.
Sophomore Paige Morrow and junior Casey Cleary led the team with five goals.

The defense allowed only 1.2 goals per game last season.
The Mountaineers outscored their opponents 28-19. On the strength to
these numbers, only two of the team’s losses were by more than one goal.
Rising sophomore goalkeeper Emma White made 89 saves last year, ranking her sixth in ASU history.
With six shutout matches, she became fourth on that list.
The future looks bright with 21 returning players and ten returning
starters who accounted for 82 percent of the scoring last season.
The ASU women’s soccer team has its first home game against Tennessee Tech University on Aug. 31.
