The annual JobFest at Appalachian State University is today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.
Patti Mitchell, the employer relations coordinator for the Career Development Center, organized JobFest.
In preparation for this event, the Career Development Center hosted multiple other events throughout the month of September.
Resume Clinics were held at contact tables in Plemmons Student Union.
Students could bring their resumes and receive feedback from professional recruiters and career counseling professionals.
Mock Interviews were also held with professional recruiters.
The Career Development Center also hosted an Etiquette Luncheon Sept.
21 to prepare students for what to do when attending a business dinner.
Students were also able to sign up for their own career gear account.
“We bring companies to the campus so graduating seniors can make connections,” Mitchell said.
In previous years, about 300-400 students have attended JobFest.
“Right now there are 84 companies attending but it will probably be
more like 87,” Mitchell said. “We are up about 20 companies from
previous years.”
Mitchell is responsible for contacting the companies and building
relationships between those companies and Appalachian State University.
“We market, publicize and invite students to JobFest and we even hold
interview workshops in preparation for the event,” Mitchell said. “We
encourage students to bring their resumes.”
No registration is required for students.
“Every company will have a booth and a table and between one to seven
representatives will attend from the companies,” Mitchell said.
JobFest is open to all majors and employers will be available to discuss career insights, internships and job opportunities.
“Students should attend to get a job,” Mitchell said. “There are some really good companies attending.”
Some of the companies that will attend include Consolidated Graphics,
the Asheville Police Department, Sherwin-Williams, the U.S. Army and
Duke Energy.
Senior public relations major Amber M. Clawson is planning to attend JobFest.
“I am interested in attending graduate school and I think it’s
important to keep all options open,” Clawson said. “JobFest would
introduce me to future employers.”
