Men's

North:  University of North Carolina Greensboro
The Spartans have an exciting team entering the 2007-08 season. Senior forward Kyle Hines will be the team leader this season. Last year, Hines averaged 20 points and nine rebounds. Also look for sophomore guard Mikko Koivisto who will provide a scoring presence at the guard position.  Last season, the Spartans finished second in the North Division of the Southern Conference with a conference record 12-6. Spartans Head Coach Mike Dement will have his squad ready to contend in a tough Southern Conference.

South: Davidson College
Davidson returns most of it team from last season. Sophomore guard Stephan Curry will give opponents headaches; he is a very talented score and can find different ways to get open. Wildcats Head Coach Bob McKillop won the SoCon tournament with a young talented squad last season - look for him to do the same this season.

Women’s

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Mocs will defend their 2006-07 SoCon title and continue their dominating play heading into the 2007-08 season. They will have to contend with Western Carolina University, who also finished 13-5 in the SoCon. The UTC and Western games will be exciting to watch this season.

Men’s

North: Appalachian State
With the departures of D.J. Thompson, Demetrius Scott and Nathan Cranford, the Mountaineers will have to look early and often to the post to find their offense. The biggest question will be who can replace Thompson’s scoring. Clayton is the leading scoring threat who averaged 10.1 points last season.

South: Davidson College
With all five starters and all 11 scholarship players returning, the Wildcats ooze experience. Davidson is led by the Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year Stephan Curry and by guard Jason Richards, one of the nation’s leaders in assists last season.

Women: University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Mocs of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga should pull away from the competition teams, such as Western Carolina University and Davidson tying for the conference’s top spot. Wes Moore will look to last season’s SoCon Player of the Year, and this season’s Preseason Player of the Year Alex Anderson to lead the way.

Men's

North - Appalachian State University
While picked in the preseason polls to come in second this season, Appalachian has a good chance to take the title this season due to the fact they were second only to Davidson last season in scoring offense with an average of 76 points per game, and second in scoring margin with an average of 8.2 points.

South - Davidson
Leading the conference with an average of 81.3 points per game, Davidson had a scoring margin of almost 13 points. Also coming off of a season with the best free throw percentage and most assists, Davidson is the contender to beat in the 2007-08 season. Sophomore returnee Stephen Curry was awarded preseason player of the year after scoring an average of 21.5 points per game, leading the league in scoring last year as a freshman.

Women's - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
While Chattanooga was forced to share the title last season with Western Carolina University, UTC will break away from the pack this season. UTC showed great strength on the court in scoring by leading the conference last season, averaging 72.1 points per game.

Men's

South - Davidson College
Davidson returns 11 scholarship players who put together a squad that was unstoppable in the SoCon last year. Even if things go badly for the Wildcats, a lot of things would have to go right for someone else for them to even to a chance of another squad winning the South Division.

North - Appalachian State University
The North seems to be a toss-up between the Mountaineers and the UNCG Spartans, with the Spartans winning the pre-season pole by just two points. Although Mike Dement’s squad will be exciting with several up-and-coming players, look for Donte Minter and Jeremy Clayton to come through in the clutch for the Mountaineers.

Women’s - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Mocs will be very competitive coming off their 2006 SoCon Title. They return a key player with senior Alex Anderson.
