Wrestling faces stiff competition

The Appalachian State University wrestling squad earned its first win of the season in New York.
The men’s wrestling squad returned Sunday from Troy, N.Y. with a 2-2 record at the Journeyman/Brute Northeast Duals.
The opening match against Central Michigan University found the Appalachian team floundering, scoring only six points to Central Michigan’s 30.
Junior
Ryan Scott won in the 141-pound weight class 4-3, while freshman Austin
Trotman garnered a win in the 184-pound class 3-2; the two combined for
the team’s six points.
The Bucknell University match resulted in the men’s first win of the season by a score of 24-12.
Sophomore Frank Celorrio opened the match with a 14-3 decision in the
125-pound class, while senior Marcus Cox gained a majority decision
with an 18-10 victory in the 141-pound class.
Seniors Scott Ervin and Eddie Hutchinson combined with Trotman and
freshman Dylan Temple for victories to round out the Appalachian score.
The third match of the day against the University of Maryland ended in a 31-7 loss for the Mountaineers.
Celorrio and Cox were the only two to receive wins in their categories.
The ASU wrestling squad evened its record in the fourth match against Binghamton University with a final of 35-9.
With a season record of 4-2, the men’s team will have its next quad at the State University of New York at Buffalo Dec. 15.
